Page last updated: Thu, Apr, 11 2024 @ 23:45:52 UTC | Estimated minute read time ( words)

This is a quick and easy kibble gravy that is done with a can of your dog's ground food (a.k.a. loaf).
Do not use chunky food packed in gravy.

Some notes before beginning:

  • Since this recipe uses canned dog food this prevents potential issues with using stock, namely the toxicity of onion and garlic. But as always, talk to your veterinarian if you have any concerns before proceeding.
  • Serving Size Suggestion: Only two tablespoons per half cup of kibble is needed
  • If you’re nervous or unsure talk to your veterinarian before proceeding.

La Cuisson

  1. Empty the contents of the dog food can into a saucepan.
  2. Use the empty can to measure 1.5 cans of water and add to the saucepan.
  3. Break up the loaf and bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. In a ramekin whisk together 1 tablespoon of cold water with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch until smooth.
  5. Stir the slurry into the saucepan and let thicken by boiling for one minute.
  6. Remove the saucepan from heat.
  7. Let cool for 15 minutes and then blend the contents of the saucepan until smooth.

Once the blended gravy has completely cooled, keep refrigerated in a food safe container. Choose something that will allow for dispensing a little bit with each meal. One suggested way to stores is in a glass container with a pour spout.
